About the Artwork:

The most important thing in sculpture is to “stop time”. Because there is no time in the three-dimensional space. Time is a concept created by the human brain, and is a fiction of the Homo Sapiens consciousness that came up with the idea of dividing space into front and back. The painting is flat, not three-dimensional, but it also stops time. Moreover, both music and literature have stopped time. Art is there to complement the fiction created by humans.

About the Artist:

(Artist Statement)

I specialize in sculptures. My drawings are mainly used as ideas for my sculptures.

It is said that all cells in the human body are replaced every 7 years. In other words, our body is made of completely different materials after 7 years. So how do we keep our memories since our birth and maintain our self identity?

I believe perhaps the reason is that the old memories are manually “copied” onto the new ones in a process similar to medieval monks copying books by hand before the invention of printing technology unlike how DNA is replicated in cells. Therefore, errors sometimes occur and the memories gradually change. Some memories are edited and some are corrected.

I express my interpretation of these subtle changes in my works with fusions between concrete and abstract, animals and humans, and delicate contrasts of shapes and colors.
