About the Artwork:

Do you know the story of Lucio? No? Practically, Lucio found himself doing nothing and so he went to look for a job. After a few months he found it. The new boss told him to show up on site at 6:00 pm. The restaurant was very flashy but looking closer you could see how filthy it actually was and plagued by the increasing humidity. On the ceilings the Murano chandeliers were dusty. On the tall windows the curtains, once purple, were now greasy and dark. On the tables, behind an apparent splendor, there were chipped glasses, stained cutlery and yellowed tablecloths. Lucio observed all this absently and waited to be called. Sliced waiters paced frantically back and forth. Then the cook came and introduced himself cordially. After some occasional chat, he pulled out an old bell and put it in his hands. “When I tell you start playing it, here it means that we start serving dinner. This will be your task today and please, we are all counting on you, don’t forget to smile that customers like”. What an honor, thought Lucio. The cook disappeared behind a wall, coughing. Lucio waited calmly. The first customers began to arrive and soon after the restaurant was almost full. Lucio was waiting on his feet, a little awkward, with the bell in his lap. At one point he heard the cook’s scream: “Go, it’s time!”. Lucio began to turn between the tables, making the bell sway, at first shy, TIN TIN, then stronger and stronger, TIN TIN, more and more frenetic, TIN TIN. He danced on the sticky floor and twirled the instrument, a smile on his face. Then he felt himself being pulled, the curly girl at the corner table had grabbed an antenna. With horror he realized that she had come off and that the little girl was starting to dip it in the sauce. The bell dropped. He didn’t have time to turn around when his right claw had also been taken away, as well as a piece of shell. He started running away, scared, but the space between the tables was narrow and labyrinthine. At each step of him, the customers lightened him. Unfortunately, he never reached the exit.

A worker knows that he has done his duty correctly when the customer is satisfied with the service.
