About the Artwork:

“Since being a kid, I have had regular dreams about the ocean. They’re about different fishes and always about whales. At the beginning, in my dreams I was at a place without ocean, in the mountains or in a city. And suddenly I see water behind houses or from a ski lift. I’m so deeply impressed and happy about it. I walk to the beach, take off my shoes and swim with all different kinds of fish. Sometimes I see whales from far away. I wake up super happy, sometimes with tears in my eyes. Later, I lived in Iceland for a while. My dreams became stronger and I still have these dreams today. So, ‘Deep Blue’ is about my happy place.” – Miriam Frank

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Miriam Frank (*1985 / Munich, Germany) grew up with an artist-Mum and got in contact with colours and pencils quite early. She studied Design at University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Augsburg (Master of Arts) and focused on illustration. Miriam Frank got interested in materials and surfaces, experimented with different dimensions and tools. Pen on paper, brush on canvas, hands on clay, saw through wood, tattoo needle under the skin. A naive-looking formal language meets bright color overlays and structures. The figurative, human and nature are in focus. She finds inspiration mostly through traveling and meeting other cultures. Especially the drifting Tokyo and the lonely nature of Iceland are recurring themes in her work. Since 2009 she works as an artist and tattooist in Munich, Reykjavik, Amsterdam and Barcelona.
