About the Artwork:

“This surrealistic work of a parrot in combination with pliers came to life in my imagination when I saw my friend working around the house with the toolbox opened up in the garage. I noticed that the top of these pliers had some kind of beak shape and wondered what kind of crazy object I could turn this into. As I tried several bird beaks to match this shape, I was most flattered by the shape of the parrot. So I started sketching this beauty on paper and a few days later it shined in full glory and the ‘Parrot Pliers’ was born!

The meaning behind this piece of art resonates deeply with one of my strongest abilities as an artist and a person. And that is to hold on tight and not let go until you achieve what you had envisioned.” – Marijke Ludwig

About the Artist:

Marijke Ludwig (1995) is an illustration artist and graphic designer from the Netherlands. She started her own design studio in 2018 in her home town Heerlen. There she currently owns a workspace and shop where she sells artprints and merch of her work. This led to some local exposure which she would like to expand to a wider audience some day.

“I would describe my work as detailed, dark and surrealistic with (occasionally) a touch of humor. It amazes me how people react to some of my pieces when they walk by the bigger prints at my shop window. It’s the glares and stares that touch my artist’s heart when they dive into my alternate reality and find themselves in there… And that is exactly why I named my studio after the phenomenon ‘Miosis’. It’s the constriction of the pupil in the eye that occurs when someone opens their eyes widely, when amazed or inspired by something.”
