About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Renan Santos is a self-taught Brazilian illustrator who started his carrier studying architecture to then discover his real passion for fine art. Drawing inspiration from 19th Century artists like Gustave Dore, J.J. Granville and Edmund Dulac, among others, he specialises in three techniques: pen and ink, printmaking and oil painting. His portfolio embodies illustrations for children’s books, large format panels, street art and fabric print boasting international exhibitions at Hatos Gallery in Tokyo, Hellion Gallery in Portland and Artistik Rezo Gallery in Paris.

“I try to rivive in form and technique those old drawings made up etching copper plates to be manually printed – keeping the ‘hand-made” alive. At first I was particularly interested in small scale drawings which are crafted with a magnifying glass. Currently I enjoy large scale painting. Getting out of my atelier to work on a wall in the streets has been very rewarding.”
