About the artwork:
“This piece has multiple meanings for me, personally, but the basis of the imagery is inspired by my sleepless nights in which I’ve attempted to “count sheep,” only for a red sky to storm over and glowing red eyes to haunt me. Even if my mind hadn’t created such frightening imagery of adorable sheep as I was desperate to sleep, counting anything to sleep never worked for me anyway. I still found my mind wandering about everything and nothing while my body was heavy in sleep deprivation. In addition to that, this piece represents some trauma I’ve dealt with and only recently started to work through. I know that’s quite vague, but I would be interested to know how you interpret this piece!” – Nadia Rausa
About the Artist:
Nadia Rausa is a half-Korean neurodivergent, queer artist and author living in Alaska, USA. Both Nadia’s visual and written work has been described as haunting and ethereal, something she embraces on the daily in her spooky heart. She has been included in various gallery shows (with WOWxWOW being one of the first!) and publications since 2017, and has self-published seven books and zines as of 2023. Outside of creating and being an exhausted ghost, she enjoys nature, admiring the moon, gaming in both video and card/board formats, reading horror/fantasy/sci-fi books, and pretending that every day is Halloween. Everyday is an adventure with her partner and their grumpy, cuddly tabby cat.
