About the Artwork:

“My intention is to represent the mental sensation when pleasure is felt. There are many sources of pleasure, physical or mental, but no matter what the source is, the feeling of pleasure is one we must seek as much as possible. Find your pleasure portals, and keep the keys. Cross them when needed. Share them when possible and leave them if necessary. Pleasure is a portal to the archaic revival.” – Raúl Sisniega

(Artist Bio)

Raúl Sisniega (México, 1980)

I‌ ‌was‌ ‌born‌ ‌and‌ ‌raised‌ ‌in‌ ‌Mexico‌ ‌City,‌ ‌where‌ ‌I‌ ‌Live‌ ‌and‌ ‌work.‌ ‌I‌ ‌had‌ ‌the‌ ‌chance‌ ‌to‌ ‌study‌ ‌Graphic‌ ‌design‌ ‌and‌ ‌visual‌ communications‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌school‌ ‌of‌ ‌fine‌ ‌arts‌ ‌and‌ ‌design‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌national‌ ‌university‌ ‌in‌ ‌Mexico.‌ ‌I‌ ‌have‌ ‌also‌ ‌taken‌ ‌some‌ ‌arts‌ ‌and‌ ‌crafts‌ ‌workshops‌ ‌like‌ ‌ceramics,‌ ‌engraving‌ ‌and‌ ‌oil‌ ‌painting.‌ ‌I‌ ‌like‌ ‌to‌ ‌learn‌ ‌new‌ ‌things,‌ ‌and‌ ‌I‌ ‌am‌ ‌always‌ ‌trying‌ ‌to‌ ‌get‌ ‌new‌ ‌information‌ ‌from‌ ‌anywhere‌ ‌I‌ ‌can.‌ ‌I‌ ‌have‌ ‌been‌ ‌painting‌ ‌murals‌ ‌for‌ ‌almost‌ ‌ten‌ ‌years‌ ‌now.‌ ‌Mostly‌ ‌in‌ ‌different‌ ‌cities‌ ‌of‌ ‌Mexico‌ ‌and‌ ‌Manchester‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌U.K.‌ ‌But‌ ‌now‌ ‌I‌ ‌am‌ ‌looking‌ ‌forward‌ ‌to‌ ‌creating‌ ‌new‌ ‌opportunities‌ ‌to‌ ‌paint‌ ‌murals‌ ‌all‌ ‌around‌ ‌the‌ ‌world.‌ ‌I‌ ‌get‌ ‌visual‌ ‌references‌ ‌from‌ ‌many‌ ‌different‌ ‌sources,‌ ‌some‌ ‌of‌ ‌them‌ ‌are‌ ‌as‌ ‌old‌ ‌as‌ ‌cartoon‌ ‌and‌ ‌Nintendo‌ ‌and‌ ‌Sega‌ ‌video‌ ‌games,‌ ‌others‌ ‌come‌ ‌from‌ ‌my‌ ‌art‌ ‌history‌ ‌classes,‌ ‌and‌ ‌a‌ ‌lot‌ ‌of‌ ‌them‌ ‌come‌ ‌from‌ ‌music,‌ ‌movies,‌ ‌and‌ ‌science.‌ ‌I‌ ‌have‌ ‌a‌ ‌particular‌ ‌interest‌ ‌in‌ ‌biology‌ ‌and‌ ‌physics;‌ ‌specifically‌ ‌in‌ ‌the‌ ‌microcosmos‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌macrocosmos.‌ ‌Since‌ ‌I‌ ‌started‌ ‌to‌ ‌take‌ ‌a‌ ‌look‌ ‌at‌ ‌how‌ ‌my‌ ‌body‌ ‌works‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌environment‌ ‌surrounding‌ ‌it,‌ ‌I‌ ‌have‌ ‌received‌ ‌many‌ ‌moments‌ ‌of‌ ‌joy‌ ‌and‌ ‌amazing‌ ‌personal‌ ‌discoveries.‌ ‌It’s‌ ‌this‌ ‌feeling‌ ‌of‌ ‌joy‌ ‌and‌ ‌amazement‌ ‌that‌ ‌drives‌ ‌me‌ ‌to‌ ‌create‌ ‌and‌ ‌share‌ ‌with‌ ‌all‌ ‌the‌ ‌viewers‌ ‌the‌ ‌things‌ ‌that‌ ‌blow‌ ‌my‌ ‌mind.‌ ‌I‌ ‌would‌ ‌say‌ ‌that‌ ‌my‌ ‌art‌ ‌is‌ ‌a‌ ‌mix‌ ‌of‌ ‌geometry‌ ‌and‌ ‌psychedelia.‌ ‌Through‌ ‌the‌ ‌use‌ ‌of‌ ‌simple‌ ‌geometric‌ ‌forms,‌ ‌I‌ ‌like‌ ‌to‌ ‌design‌ ‌a‌ wide‌ ‌range‌ ‌of‌ ‌characters‌ ‌that‌ ‌inhabit‌ ‌a‌ ‌micro-universe‌ ‌filled‌ ‌with‌ ‌atmospheres‌ ‌full‌ ‌of‌ ‌rhythm‌ and‌ ‌color‌ ‌shades.‌ ‌By‌ ‌dealing‌ ‌with‌ ‌scientific‌ ‌concepts‌ ‌like‌ ‌quantum‌ ‌particles,‌ ‌fragmentation,‌ infinity,‌ ‌and‌ ‌cell‌ ‌reproduction,‌ ‌I‌ ‌like‌ ‌to‌ invite‌ ‌the‌ ‌beholder‌ ‌to‌ ‌enter‌ ‌a‌ ‌mystical‌ ‌world‌ ‌full‌ ‌of‌ ‌mathematics‌ ‌and‌ ‌questions‌ ‌about‌ ‌the‌ ‌nature‌ ‌of‌ ‌matter,‌ ‌spirit‌ ‌and‌ ‌our‌ ‌own‌ ‌existence.‌ ‌Been‌ ‌obsessed‌ ‌with‌ ‌tessellations‌ ‌for‌ ‌many‌ ‌years‌ ‌now,‌ ‌so‌ ‌I‌ ‌have‌ ‌great‌ ‌influence‌ ‌of‌ ‌pattern‌ ‌designs‌ from‌ ‌pre‌ ‌columbian‌ ‌civilizations‌ ‌in‌ ‌America,‌ ‌Islamic‌ ‌tiles‌ ‌and‌ ‌wood‌ ‌carvings,‌ ‌as‌ ‌well‌ ‌as‌ ‌European‌ ‌designers‌ ‌from‌ ‌the‌ ‌XX‌ ‌century‌ ‌like‌ ‌Koloman‌ ‌Moser‌ ‌and‌ ‌M.C.‌ ‌Escher.‌ ‌
