About the Artwork:
“A small tribute to the dimensionality of memories. While the visuals associated with memories can be conjured in the mind, it is surprising how unreliable they can be as the images blur and fade with time, while other aspects of an experience such as sound, feel, smells, and tastes remain shockingly clear. “Opal” is a reflection of growing up in a largely rural area exploring nature. While specifics of the woods where I spent much of my time can’t be recalled exactly, in an instant I can smell it, and hear the rustles and creaks and snaps of leaves and twigs and swaying tree trunks. Birchbark is powdery-soft on the underside where it peels away from the tree, and running my fingers over it was and is one of my favorite sensations.” – Dory Whynot
