“Every now and then, one must peel themselves out of the husk and leave behind the wrinkly old baggage that came with it. This piece is about the onset of that moment, when we’re shiny and good-smelling right out of the package like a new toy. I was struggling with some self-doubts about my work and where things were going to go this new year while I was painting it. It made the process of making this more difficult as a result but I pushed through and can now say I’m honestly feeling as pretty about things as this colorful devil looks.” – Martin Ontiveros
