About the Artwork:
Satori means the experience of awakening (“enlightenment”) or apprehension of the true nature of reality. The layers of self peel away, masks come off to reveal more masks, and on and on, deeper into the nature of reality itself, until the true “self” is revealed, and dissolved. A sudden awakening can happen at any time, for any reason , and often happens in the most mundane situations when something said or experienced snaps us out of our own illusions. It can be jarring, frightening, and blissful.
Surrounded by the seeds of metamorphosis she writhes in ecstasy and terror, the constructs of self fly away both social and self generated, the witnessing of absurdism in cartoon form nudges her mind through the gauntlet of crawling fear into a flowering of enlightenment, the Koan of comedy on repeating across her form.
