About the Artwork:

We Have Questions depicts a typical Friday night necromancy session at the home of Bertha, Annabeth, and Minerva, collectively known as theThritch (Three-Headed Witch), as their familiars watch nearby. We see them mid-conjuring, and though the spirit being brought forth appear anguished, it’s just the momentary discomfort of transitioning from one plane to the other; once it’s settled, it will feel pretty chill and talkative. The “zoom chat” of the occult involves a few more steps than a simple key stroke and you can see the tools of the process on display.

Over the years, I’ve some to see the action of making a piece of artwork as not unlike the working of a spell in magic. There’s the length of time spent working out the composition (or intent), the procuring of the tools and materials to produce the work, the execution and energy expended in the labor itself and then the aftermath, where if you did it just right, the desired reaction or effect will happen. A sort of watered down Witch’s Pyramid system which I’ve adopted. It’s my view that artists are magicians and spell casters in their own way. Abracadabra!” – Martin Ontiveros
