About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Rubenimichi is comprised of three Spanish artists who have been working together as a collective since 1996. Their names are Ruben, Michi and Luisjo, but they ask that their personal identities take second place to that of the collective. Thus, they are an artist-monster with three heads and six hands, perfectly coordinated and coherent in their creation of fascinating and visionary works.

Rubenimichi has been exhibited throughout the world in collective and personal exhibitions (La Luz de Jesus, Mondo Bizzarro, Iguapop, La Fresh Gallery…) and has been valued and recognised for their extraordinary pictorial quality.

Figurative, symbolic and surreal and open to a liberal public interpretation, the work of Rubenimichi creates a magic realism, a take on the world that invites the viewer to lose themselves in refined and intricate details. These small paintings with vibrant and luminous colours, depict human subjects and grapple with a dark, inspirational universe, that is at times, malicious and a times, enigmatic.

A great influence is the s. XV Flemish art. They love their colours, bright and luminous, but very dark and sinister in the result. Van der Weyden’s ‘The Descent from the Cross’ is maybe their favourite painting.

References to nature and magic are intertwined with continuous quotations and references to the Pre-Raphaelite universe or the Flemish art mentioned above, but there are a thousand things more that influence Rubenimichi: freemasonry, circus, wild life, tempus fugit, dark side of the history, music…
