About the Artwork:
This painting is based on childhood memories about my grandfather.
My grandfather was a World War II child, he had a difficult childhood. He was a hard worker and spent all his life working at a metallurgical plant. There was not a single thing which he could not make himself or repair.
Grandfather knew what hunger was, which is probably why my grandparents always had a supply of homemade pelmeni (dumplings) in the freezer to quickly prepare a hot meal in case someone unexpectedly dropped by for a visit. It was generally impossible to leave their house without having lunch or dinner with them. As a kid, I used to help my grandfather make dumplings — that’s when my grandfather was putting my grandmother’s scarf on my head; which was tied in such a way that I resembled a dumpling. – Rim Baudey
