About the Artwork:
“I’ve been reading The Floure and the Leafe and feel very much like the person in this poem, where the title of this piece comes from one of the lines. This poem has made me think more of the precious moments where I can pluck mulberries from the tree by my window or from wild strawberry plants in my walks. Every now and then I will catch sight of a small chipmunk. I’m trying to hold onto these moments before winter comes again.” – Niky Motekallem
About the Artist:
Niky Motekallem is an Iranian-American illustrator who depicts flora and fauna in various states of decay. She uses intricate lines and bright colors inspired by their Persian roots to depict rot and rebirth. When she isn’t working in the studio, Niky is figure skating, brewing a decadent cup of tea, meandering in antique shops for inspiration, on hikes with plant identification guides, or crying over an anime episode.
