About the Artwork:
“The soul of the swan is like a carnivorous sea, a predatory clarity of no shape but that which is given it, of no color but that which is reflected by it, whose hunger carves the world with the slow caress of white-feathered surf. Deep as shipwrecks, frenetic as glutting fish, regal as tides, the swan’s soul-song is the sound of waves that touch the sun, dissolving, darkening, digesting it. This is what finds the bird in its egg, and what flies from it at the last.” – Taken from The Ninth Archive, an ongoing series of illustrated crypto-worlds – Marcelo Gallegos
About the Print:
“Original drawing on which the print is based is graphite with mixed media on paper, with digital color added. This is an inkjet print of the colored version.
Each Cocoon print is printed with archival inks on Arches Aquarelle 310 gsm inkjet paper by Canson Infiniti — a 100% rag, archival paper. The paper has a lovely cold-pressed watercolor texture, with a bright white color. This paper is really gorgeous (if I do say so myself)!
Each print has been hand signed by me, the artist.
Prints measure approximately 11×17″. There is at least a 1″ border around the image, which measures approximately 9×15″ on the printed page.” – Marcelo Gallegos

(Artist Bio)
It is 2018. Society devolves further and further towards some dystopian hellscape — all piloted by a shadowy, unseen cabal. Destruction seeps in at its borders, leaving nerves and thoughts frayed. But still, we create new worlds, distilling stories from the chaos.
Recently I have been profoundly inspired to delve as deeply as possible into the world that has chosen me to weave it, and to explore its characters to their fullest bloom. I seek to tell a story which roughly parallels recent developments, albeit under stars of a different sky. In this new place, the characters which populate it are beset by an encroaching illness — the result of misused technologies, misplaced fears and anxieties, and some pervasive evil which slowly reveals itself as the layers of reality are pulled back. Inside that reality, a small group of people, each an expression of a piece of myself, attempt to chart a way forward against all odds. Our two worlds exist in tandem, and in each one our identities have been reduced to nothing more than a commodity. A thread in a tapestry, hooked into an endlessly scrolling feed. I hope I can contribute some incongruity: a missing weft; a glitch in the continuum; or that errant mutation whose existence need not be justified, but compels curiosity.
