About the Artwork:
“I have been fascinated by trompe-l’oeil since I was a child, it seems to me to be the highest form of realism. I loved animals too, and this great love has continued all my life, so I naturally came to draw and paint my furry companions as well as other fascinating creatures. The merge of my 2 passions, trompe-l’oeil and animals, have been a revelatory moment, and began 11 years ago with my mice series as a consequence of a mice home invasion. Logically, my mice paintings series became quickly a concept of multiplication, and I’m very thankful for my numerous collectors who help me spread my mice paintings invasion worldwide.” – Marina Dieul
About the Artist:
Marina Dieul was born in France. She showed great interest in painting and drawing from an early age, and her family encouraged her vocation. She passed the baccalaureate at Lettre-Arts, followed by studies at L’Ecole des Beaux Arts de Lorient.
In early 2000, she moved to Canada, where she now lives with her family.
Marina Dieul is best known for her animals and figures paintings in trompe-l’oeil style, full of humor and poetry. She works in her Montreal studio surrounded by the many cats she fosters for a no-kill shelter in Montreal, as well as other surprising and sweet relationships with animals including, most recently a squirrel.
Her work has received numerous awards and honors, including the Kingston Prize, the Portrait Society of Canada, the Artist Magazine, and International Artist Magazine, among others.
She won the William Bouguereau Best of Show Award, and first place in the drawing category at the Art Renewal Center Salon, the Best of Show in the “Inspiring Figures” exhibition (Butler Institute of American Art) and two Awards of Exceptional merit at the Portrait Society of America’s international competitions. She has been selected as a Living Master by the Art Renewal Center.
Marina Dieul’s work has been exhibited in many locations in Canada, USA, Europe, Asia and the South Pacific. Her paintings are enormously admired and collected throughout the world.
