About the Artwork:

“JUST PRETEND, draws inspiration from the iconic Barbie by playfully juxtaposing the classic 1959 Beach Barbie’s iconic hair and outfit with a sullen contemporary figure. Within this artwork, Booth challenges the romanticized façade surrounding the doll, unveiling the profound toll she pays while striving for an illusion of flawlessness.

This mixed media painting uses an airbrushed sunset gradient, stark stencil work and a softly rendered blue figure painted with oils to play with colour, contrast and texture, with all elements of the piece extending onto the sides of the panel.” – Morgan Booth

(Artist Bio)

Morgan Booth is an established Pop Figurative artist based in Toronto, Canada. Her signature blue figure oil paintings use surreal colour choices and figures to explore concepts of identity and discovery of self. Playing with the perceptual experience and physical response to colour, Booth uses blue tones to evoke feelings of calmness and contemplation, while using the intensity of warm colours to stimulate.

Selected exhibitions include J/M Gallery in London, UK, Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco, and Arch Enemy in Philadelphia. Booth’s works are part of several private collections in Canada, the United States and England.
