About the Artwork:
To all the jewels of Versailles was added another, more splendid in its ephemeral glitter than the emeralds in the gardens and the sapphires in the fountains and the rubies in the eyes of the power-hungry lords and ladies of the court. The all-night spectacle in honour of King Louis was drawing to a close when suddenly the actors lit hundreds of lanterns and candles, and for a brief moment dazzled the court, only to extinguish them just as suddenly. And the only source of light left in the darkness was King Louis himself, in his shining golden robes. The court fell silent in unspoken admiration, the Sun-King raised his right hand in an immortal gesture of power, and with his left he tore off his sun-disc mask. His hairy monkey face sent the ladies present into a swoon of desire and made the gentlemen lower their eyes.
“Ook.”
The king flung his shit at the nearest musician and the court erupted in applause.

(Artist Bio)
Petra is a traditional printmaker and illustrator from Czech Republic.
Her universe is one of almost tyrannical, symbolist harmony. The meticulous attention to detail combined with the unnamed feeling behind words, senses and meaning. Quiet, unmoving, perpetual gazing upon something charmingly familiar, yet strangely and deeply foreign. Alien, ambiguous, disconnected from our expectations and challenging ordinary perception – creatures humming silently, in their shattered words of dread and eeriness.
