About the Artwork:
“Throughout my career as an illustrator I have always had trouble melding together my two cultures into my personal work. Growing up as an Asian American, it wasn’t until I was an adult that I felt truly proud of my asian heritage and who I was. Although I love western culture and especially its medieval history/ fantasy art I struggle with feeling the need to put my full voice into it. This piece is a small portrayal of the struggle of uniting my love for fantasy illustration and identity as someone who is Vietnamese – Cambodian. I combined elements of western designed plate armor with eastern asian aesthetics and symbolism (such as the zodiac sign ; I am a rooster). The main figures’ stance and gaze reflect my own struggles as I continue to carve my path into the industry. As I move forward I would hope to find honest and unique ways to incorporate more of my heritage into my personal work.” – Alex V Ngo
About the Artist:

Alex Ngo is an Illustrator from Southern California. He graduated from California State University, Long Beach, with a BA in Studio Art. Alex then furthered his art training at the Watts Atelier in San Diego, studying the fundamentals of drawing and painting for another four years. In the fall of 2021 he began his career as a freelance illustrator. Since then Alex has worked with a variety of clients across the fantasy and sci fi genre.
