About the Artwork:
This painting references an abandoned pear orchard next to the home where I grew up – a small patch of land that’s remained mostly untouched in an area filled to near capacity with suburban development. Its physical presence is relatively small, but the woods and orchard loom large in my memory and dreams. I’ve incorporated both classic and personal imagery alluding to the life cycle, abundance, and loss. This piece is part of a continuing body of work related to seasonal celebration, ancient vegetative deities, and transformation myths found throughout folklore. – Sarah Boyce
