(Artist Bio)
Sergio Farfán blends the memories from his hometown of Peru with the life he has lived in Chicago to create works that focus on the struggles, dreams, and emotions that people experience in their lives. Farfán began to draw as a form of therapy as he coped with anxiety at a young age. Through this hardship, he found refuge in his art and would draw his favorite cartoon characters to escape reality. In recent years, Farfán found common ground with other individuals who were exposed to their own traumas during childhood, using these stories as inspiration for his intimate works. His creative process comes from utilizing a range of mediums and incorporating different art styles that combine into a contemporary melange. Farfán has provided artwork for public and private events throughout the nation- some of which headlined Chad Smith from the band “Red Hot Chili Peppers” to Grammy award-winning Yo-Yo Ma.
