About the Artwork:
“Chime, can you hear that?” The river otter on his shoulder shifted his weight and perked its head to the side, listening intently. After a few moments, it looked back at him and shook its head. “No, Jack,” It seemed to say. Jack sat up and leaned closer to the corner of the room; a small buzzing sound had stolen much of his attention all day long, reaching a point where it was impossible not to investigate. Chime shuffled over the lace of Jack’s jacket toward the sound. Suddenly the corner of the marine admiral’s office seemed to fold in on itself, like looking at a mirror held up to another mirror, infinite corridors stretching far into the horizon. A gentle voice seemed to sing from somewhere deep within this impossible hallway, “Jack, my Child of Light. Chime, my little Gift. Come home.” The song was familiar, it was warm, an invitation sent with the best of intentions. Without thinking for even a moment, Jack felt himself stand and began to walk toward the echoing shimmer. Chime tucked himself inward and burrowed deeper into Jack’s collar. Jack started to smile – the humming suddenly made sense, it was coming from himself, it was the vibration in the wall, it was the little otter holding itself closer to him, it was adventure, prophecy, it was everything.
“I think it’s about time we listened, eh, Chime?” Jack chuckled to himself, stepping into that unimaginable place.
