About the Artwork:

I love to paint Lemurs, Ringtails especially have the best haughty expressions, which seemed perfect for when painting one in Renaissance garb. It’s in an antique frame that I restored myself. – Cassandra Kim

About the Artist:

(Artist Statement)

Richmond, Virginia based artist, Cassandra Kim is a contemporary painter whose work bridges the traditional and the surreal. She works in acrylic and oil on panel, and often restores reclaimed antique/vintage wood frames for her paintings. Her work explores the unique personalities, characteristics and diversity of the animal kingdom through portraits of her imagined society. She is a 2003 BFA Illustration graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University, and she worked commercially as an artist for 14 years. She is the 2013 recipient of the Klondike Gold Rush National Park and Chilkoot Historical Site artist residency. In 2018 Cassandra turned her focus to her personal art full-time, where she has since been in exhibits across the United States and internationally.
