About the Artwork:

“I have always been interested in (concerned with?) the cycle of decadence that all societies eventually succumb to, and the leftover individuals who seem unable to recognize new ways of thinking and functioning. The ‘Matriarch’ is one such creature who simply will not or can not accept that her own past position in her own society is no longer relevant, and she is unaware of how she might be seen by those who might now occupy her former seat of influence and authority.” – Ed Binkley
