About the Artwork:

“Blood and Snow reimagines the figure of the hunter from the tale of Snow White. The character stands as a symbol of duality: both a hunter and a victim. In the original fairytale the hunter is commanded to kill Snow White but ultimately cannot bring himself to do it, instead sparing her life. The image of the bloody heart, carried by the bird in an arrow slung over its back, alludes to the twisted loyalty and violence at the core of the hunter’s role. I am frequently drawn to the psychological complexity hidden within fairy tales, where the consequences of a decision can echo far beyond the act itself.” – Rachel Favelle

About the Artist:

(Aritst Bio)

Rachel Favelle is a Pop Surreal artist and illustrator. Her work is inspired by the Australian flora and fauna that she encountered while growing up in the country.

Her fantastical imaginings emerge in meticulously rendered oils paintings, drawings and sculptures that whisk the viewers away to other-wordly places.

Rachel’s work highlights the beauty of nature and the importance of childhood imagination while providing pressing commentary on wildlife conservation.

In her words: “Children have an instinctive curiosity when it comes to nature, I want people to revisit this experience in order to think more deeply about how they engage with their surroundings.”
