About the Artwork:

“This is my first piece of the year: the year of the wood snake in the Chinese zodiac. I am expressing the anxieties I have with my country’s politics and the uncertainty of the following months and years. The wood snake serves as a sign of healing–this interpretation is a two-headed snake whose twin erupts gnarled branches outward and back into itself. The remaining head faces the opposite direction, perhaps as an attempt to flee or as a desire to go backward; it is for the viewer to interpret.

Wood Snake is also a personal exploration of watercolors, as well as a desire to create more traditional works. I leaned into the unpredictability of the water and pigments, which I feel also compliments the chaos present in the composition.” – Mx. Morgan
