The Hagalaz Rune, in Norse mythology, is the Rune that symbolizes complete destruction.

Besides disasters, destruction processes in nature are vital for progress and new growth and fertility and therefore this Rune symbolizes our ability to overcome obstacles in our life path.

Kirsten Schaap (@kirsketchbook) is an illustrator living and working in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Her work revolves around introspection, darkness, contrast and raw emotion- fear, loss and decay are recurring themes in her work. She mainly works in black-and-white and her work is drawn by hand using a stippling technique, which enables her to bring depth, texture and layers into her work. She is inspired by nature, mythology and science fiction.
