About the Artwork:

“I would usually describe my work as surreal, yet familiar; a portal we can use to escape our reality. This piece however, part of a series I am working on, is less about escape and more about examining the experiences, relationships, and emotions that have “broken” us along the way. When I sat with this idea, my mind was almost immediately drawn to the Japanese art of Kintsugi, where broken ceramics are mended with powdered gold, leaving beautiful battle scars for all to see. As a philosophy, it is believed the breakage and repair is part of the objects history, not something to disguise but to cherish. This series is all about accepting who we are, honouring our journey so far, and piecing ourselves back together from the challenges we’ve endured; stronger and more beautiful than before.” – David Camisa
