About the Artwork:
“Mara is a legendary creature, one of the spirits from ancient Slavic mythology. Mara is a dark spirit that takes a form of a beautiful woman and then visits men in their dreams, torturing them with desire. Mara can turn into animals and objects, such as cats, frogs, yarn, straw or apples. People believed that Mara drained people – as well as cattle and horses – of energy and blood at night.” – Anna Ezer
About the Artist:
Anna Ezer is an artist and art historian from Saint-Petersburg, Russia. As a dark art illustrator she works with ink, mixed media and digital design. Anna received her MA in Art History from the Saint-Petersburg State University.
Anna’s work tends to focus on balance and harmony of the chaos around us. In the postindustrial rhizomatic world, the artist focuses on the basic things: beauty and death. Her dark romantic style is full of details, harmonizes of human figure, plants, animals into a grotesque surreal mosaique.
