“Due to the last few years of uncertainty, a mindset has slowly formed for me. I can’t shake the feeling of the Reaper peering over my shoulder. At first, making paintings about impending death felt like a manifestation I didn’t dare to participate in, but lately I see these beautiful little moments that make up my life presented to me like gems. Death becomes less terrifying. I want to make art that feels like loving, precious and vulnerable.” – Colete Martin

Colete Martin is an acrylic painter and illustration professor living and working in Denver, Colorado. Raised in the mountains of Southern Oregon her work calls on the power and severity of a natural landscape which her subjects channel. Colete received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC in 2020. Her background in illustration heavily influences her decisions when composing paintings and narratives.
