About the Artwork:
“While I know that the theme of this show is simply art on a square surface, it got me to think deeply about the squares that have had great significance in my life and one of those squares would undoubtedly be a blotter tab of LSD.
I was 14 years old when I had my first encounter with this strange but magical substance… I would never broadly suggest that adolescents (or anyone for that matter) should drop acid willy nilly as there are certainly mental health factors that can play a role in how this turns out but if I had a guarantee that all first trips would be like mine, I absolutely would suggest it to everyone. It made me feel small… in the best of ways. It made me feel part of a much larger whole. It made me far less concerned about what people thought of me yet made me want to be more considerate & giving to them. It made me far less worried about death and far more excited about life. It made me completely obsessed with the creative act, the process of making things from nothing. Most importantly my experience with LSD showed me that our perceptions of our selves & reality are much more malleable than we believe them to be and that we are not beholden to follow the dotted lines of expectation placed upon us by society… we can live weird, happy and uninhibited lives full of whatever type of joy, wonder and chaos that we choose.” – Colin Frangicetto
