About the Artwork:
“I wanted to contrast textures and compositional elements in ways that unsettle and engage the viewer. The textures depicted, (metal, feather, cloth, and skin) all have narrative parts to play. The hand gripping the shoulder creates an uneasy tenderness. The hard edges of the ceremonial helmet are in a kind of opposition to the rest of the textures. The visage on the helmet and the face of the women are separated by a third visage that is not completely revealed. I wanted the piece to have several narrative elements that played off one another and pushed the viewer deeper.” – Jason A. Mowry

(Artist Bio)
Inspired by the stories he reads, and the people and times that surround him, Jason’s work blends myth, personal narrative, and symbolic imagery to speak to the larger collective narrative.
