About the Artwork:
“When I was a child which like a flower was growing in the garden. It protected me and isolated me. I used to receive different information from this unknown world. That confused me. I desired to know who am I. I yearned to release my inner power, but I was held back by both external and internal voices. They just like two kids whisper, one told me “YES” and the other told me “NO” or more. I didn’t know how to balance them, when I wasn’t strong enough to leave the “garden”. Such contradictory whispers have been accompanied by my growth.” – Huihong Huang
About the Artist:
(Artist Bio)
Huihong Huang, lives in Shanghai. The three characters in my name are homophones for the colors yellow (HUANG),gray (HUI) and red (HONG) in the Chinese language, the main colors used in my art. By exploring the memory of cartoons in my childhood and establishing a visual connection with traditional Chinese elements, I reconcile the contradictions between them. Quiet and dark vision, evil and innocent characters, strange and beautiful wonderland, these reflect people’s contradictory and unified heart.
