“This windup toy space explorer is feeling rather terrestrial. I guess a lot of my work comes from some homegrown experience. I didn’t realize until I was asked to think about it, but this feels like a sort of self portrait. I don’t think I’m alone in saying I haven’t been in a plane in close to two years and I’ve become pretty familiar with whatever’s in walking distance from my house. I can’t say I don’t like walking around the neighborhood with my reluctant preteen pointing out all the flowers I know and wishing I knew my trees better.” – Tripper Dungan
