About the Artwork:
Her name was Elide and she was a very charming hen. When years before she had reached maturity many people had asked her to marry but she refused
every proposal.
She had several lovers with whom he entertained in the coldest hours. She frequented many friends during her free evenings. On Sunday she had lunch
with the whole family at her grandmother’s house.
On a Tuesday in early September, as she was coming home from work, she heard the call.
“Hey you! Psss Elide… is that your name?”
She turned, puzzled.
“Elide… don’t be afraid. I must speak to you.”
“Who is it?” asked the hen timidly.
“It’s not my name that matters… but yours. Is your name Elide?”
“Yes.” Elide confirmed, hesitantly as the yellow eyes flickered in all directions to see where that voice came from. It was a sensual sound, unknown and confidential at the same time.
“Well Elide. Now that I know it’s you I have to make an annunciation.”
Elide listened but slowly backed away, pulling one paw after the other, frightened.
“Look in your left pocket.”
Elide, her eyes in the air, felt her side and felt that her pocket was swollen. She looked down and suspiciously peeked between the cloth flaps. A smooth, round object had appeared in her left pocket. She had spots on the surface, and as she pulled it out he noticed its heaviness. It was an egg.
“What is it?” asked the hen in terror.
The lime trees were rubbing their leaves, in the distance you could hear some cicada chirping, even the little river on the side produced a strange song. Elide looked around, there were many sounds but unfortunately none with an answer.
“What does all this mean?” cried Elide, turning her face, the egg still between her fingers trembling at heart level.
Silence.
The sweat began to slide on her feathered cheeks, with arrogance salted her half-closed beak. She remained motionless.
A bell tower suddenly thundered and disenchanted the hen who stared at the egg from above. Perhaps it was the emotion, perhaps it was the fear,
but she seemed to emanate warmth.
“So small, so powerful…” she thought. She put it back in his pocket and wiped her forehead.
She set off again. The egg in her pocket was jumping and slowing her down.
“So small, so powerful, so heavy…” she whispered to himself.
After a few feet her steps became more sure. The stomach began to rumble suddenly. Elide stared and stopped again. Perhaps she was hungry, it was
now dinner time. A sad expression appeared on his face.
“So small, so powerful, so heavy… so delicious…” Said Elide, and as her eyes filled with tears, she started walking fast again, heading for home.
