About the Artwork:
“This piece came out of a story I am writing about a time traveling cat that contains the spirit of it’s deceased neighbor. The scene is based off the view from my kitchen window where in my neighbor’s backyard, her dog often walks around alone under a persimmon tree. I wanted to use this simple composition to develop a very magical and surreal narrative. I like the idea that a dog can summon or sense the presence of spirits from the past.” – Dean Stuart

As an illustrator and a gallery artist, I’ve been making work for magazines, books, and galleries for the past several years. I grew up in Indiana and Oregon where I cultivated my passion for drawing and storytelling. Since 2007 I’ve been pursuing my career in editorial and publishing industries as well as showing work in galleries across the country. I work out of my studio space at The Compound Gallery in Oakland, CA.
