About the Artwork:
“This piece comes from my Dankquart Collection project, a continuing series of of faux antiquities based on an imagined narrative of a rediscovered lost civilization. I create the enclosures and the paintings as a singular work rather than approaching the work as a painting and a frame. In this imaginary world, the portraits honor a significant person or event in the civilization’s history, in this case a spell casting mystic, and the influence of his spell. The pieces also serve to relate events or mythology to the general population in a non verbal way. Some stories may be celebratory tales, some cautionary warnings.” – John Walker
