About the Artwork:
“This piece is a commemoration of a forgotten animal, the Thylacine or as it’s more commonly known, the Tasmanian Tiger. The Thylacine is a recently extinct carnivorous marsupial that lived in Tasmania up until the 1920s, when the last know animal died in captivity. Although the species was already on the decline and had already been absent from mainland Australia for a couple hundred years, in Tasmania it was finally hunted to extinction for it’s assumed threat to sheep farming. This piece is lamenting the loss of such a unique species, that we destroyed without realizing, before we ever understood what it was.” – Kate O’Hara

Kate O’Hara lives in Reno, Nevada and works as a freelance artist and illustrator. She earned a BFA in Illustration from the University of the Arts in 2014. Since then she has worked with many different illustration clients, while also showing her work in galleries. She creates nature inspired art that draws people in through it’s nostalgic mood and intricate detail. Her lyrical, flowing compositions juxtapose animal behavior with human introspection. The often surreal images attempt to touch on areas of the psyche that we are fascinated by, but are difficult to express in words.
