About the Artwork:
“Through a chaotic and alien landscape I explore themes of sexual desire, augmentation, and female identity to challenge what we take for granted as “normal,” and to view ourselves in a humorously alien light. My recent figures are grotesque yet strangely alluring mash-ups of slimy, aquatic forms wading in fluid worlds while still exhibiting human characteristics. I borrow the cliche female body language found in fashion magazines, advertisements, and social media to see how far I can push the form while still having it read as feminine and erotic. I tend to get a lot of ideas for the overall concept of a character from a derogatory phrase as is somewhat the case with ‘Cleavage for Days’. I also like to mix in some oppressive phallic symbols such as the snaking worm in this piece, coiling around the female and forming her body into a bustier shape. She poses proudly and gazes straight back at the viewer, obviously enjoying the attention.” – Jacqueline Gallagher

Painter of Zombies and the Disturbed. Or Disturbed Zombie Painter… I forget which. These figures are contradictions, beautiful and grotesque at the same time. They float through their worlds driven by craving, vanity, and addiction, caught in moments of stiff poses and comedic indulgence. They put themselves on display for the world as their bodies and minds slowly decay. This is how I see myself and most everyone around me. We are the Dead Living, but we sure do look good.
Born in 1984 and raised on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2009. Since then, I’ve exhibited nationally numerous times with 3 solo and many more group shows. In 2015 I relocated to my new home in Portland, Oregon.
