The artwork is loosely based on a poetry of a Vietnamese poet that I have been working with recently.
“Kìa giọt sương rơi
ba nghìn thế giới
phút giây rạng ngời”
“Oh falling dew
three thousand worlds
shining brilliantly”
“Three thousand worlds” is a Buddhist term to conjecturally indicate the vast and boundless universe that we know of. The short haiku talks about the moment of enlightenment when one see the sacred beauty in every fragment of life regardless how small or insignificant it may seem. The season indicated in the Haiku is autumn, thus all elements in the painting (riped rice plants, willow leaves…) are also typical of the season. The painting was made by watercolor, painted carefully every single details on tea-dyed heavyweight watercolor paper. – Phuong ‘Jacquell’ Nguyen
About the Artist:
Phuong Nguyen (aka Jacquell) is a Vietnamese self-taught painter originally from Saigon, Vietnam and currently living in Bologna, Italy.
Her works focus on feminine beauty and she works mainly with watercolor with a keen dedication for details and delicate brush strokes. Set in a dark yet poetic world, Phuong’s artworks embrace her oriental origin, the harmony between human and nature and how such coexistence embodies certain subtle, clandestine message.
