(Artist Bio)
In surrealism exists the ambiguous and disorientating world between reality and interpretation. It pierces our bubble of familiarity and thrusts us into the freedom of the imagination. It is from here, that we are able to confront such notions as manufactured perception and the role of language in our relationship with the unknown. If we learn the language first, it comes to shape the way we think. Whereas, the surreal confronts us with something strange and unfamiliar, that does not immediately correspond with any predetermined visual criteria.
I produce both digital painting and oil paintings. For me, neither approach informs the end result to any significant degree. Practically speaking, digital often proves to be more efficient. However, some may prefer the more tangible quality of a traditional painting.
