About the Artwork:

“This piece is about breathing through difficult moments. Things that are broken can heal again and become stronger than before. It is painted after a long period of sickness. My paintings are intuitive, but most of the time I can see afterwards why I’ve made certain things. Just like an emotion in a song, it’s hard to describe, but I think we are attracted to certain images for a reason.” – Marjolein Caljouw

About the Artist:

(Artist Statement)

It all started with a huge interest in the world around me. I strongly believe that drawing is a way to learn. To study something and capture it. I combined hours of drawing with lots of love and created art. Through my art I’ve connected with people from all over the world. Since 2008 I’ve been working as an illustrator on super interesting projects like illustrations for magazines, a 180m2 mural in the flagship store of Esprit, hotels, published a book and painted a Leica camera cover. This gave me the opportunity to work together with art directors, product designers, PR agencies, visual merchandisers, architects and more. Now my goal is to work on a new series of paintings. This is something I wanted for the longest time.
