(Artist Bio)
Sybiline is a Canadian artist based in Quebec. Holder of a bachelor’s degree in visual art from Laval University, she continued her research, self-taught, on traditional techniques of ancient painting. Fascinated by portraiture, she explored the depths of human identity very early on. Her desire to express the invisible, which she calls ”the interior garden” of the human being, naturally directs her work towards imaginary and symbolic worlds. Her work, in which each brushstroke evolves gently, is guided by a spiritual nature. Since her very first creation, the artist has considered painting to be an invaluable means of establishing silent and confidential contacts with her audience.
The artist works mainly with oil. Her passion for this medium has never stopped growing. The integration of wood into her universe brings her discoveries and extraordinary challenges. This new practice allows her to come into direct contact with nature and it is not without thinking of her father, cabinetmaker and turner that she looks at each piece of wood as an artwork by itself. In her workshop, the smells of oils, essences and sawdust are the mixture of a recipe whose proofs are still to be done.
Her paintings have been exhibited in several major galleries around the world such as Modern Eden (California), Abend Gallery (Colorado), Illuxcon (Pennsylvania), Penumbra (Portugal), Federation Gallery (Vancouver), Gristle (New York), Youn (Quebec), Arta Gallery (Ontario), Greenhouse Gallery (Texas).
