About the Artwork:

“Mushrooms are the perfect example of buried connections because of the way they grow, from hidden networks of underground ‘roots’ called mycelium. Mushrooms are a constant source of fascination for me, and they appear in my work very frequently. Unlike my other paintings, this one depicts a real mushroom, Amanita caesarea, which I am still on the hunt for in the wild! Despite its vivid colours, it is edible, and was a favourite of Roman emperors, hence the name.” – Shannon Knight
