About the Artwork:

“My work over the past several years has focused primarily on a world of ‘gentle creatures’ that lurk various landscapes. Each one is a unique soul, often wandering or interacting with nature. While there is sometimes a feeing of sadness or longing in the work, there is always a glimmer of hope and an overall sense of “humanity” in their eyes . Each new piece is a snapshot from their world. It has certainly been an interesting journey and each painting presents an opportunity to further explore their universe. The world has many parallels to our own and occasionally it even crosses over. As many of us do, I often find myself contemplating our universe… why we are here, what else is ‘out there’… this piece, depicting a couple of creatures ‘Drifting Through the Cosmos’ kind of sums up that general feeling.” – Dan May

Dan May is a modern narrative painter. A native of Rochester, NY, Dan attended Syracuse University where he achieved a BFA and began to immediately pursue his artistic interests. May weaves a rich texture of the surreal and mysterious into his highly original flowing style. His detail-intensive works have become widely recognized for their dreamlike ability to transcend the natural states of space and time. His paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the world, including the 2013 Suggestivism show at the Acquario Romano in Rome. Dan lives and works in northern Michigan with his wife, Kendal and their sons, Max & Dylan.
