About the Artwork:

Painted after Goya’s ‘The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters’, the scene depicts a slumbering figure surrounded by monstrous beings from art history. From Hieronymus Bosch’s ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’ triptych, to Henry Fuseli’s ‘The Nightmare’ and an Albrecht Dürer woodcut titled ‘The Beast with Seven Heads and the Beast with Lamb’s Horns’ from his Apocalypse series, the painting explores our collective fascination with nightmares and their influences.
