About the Artwork:

“This tiny portrait of a tearful girl is a based on a drawing from my Orphans series that I created for Baby Tattooville when I was a participant back in 2008. I made close to 100 drawings featuring emotional little orphan children and have only painted a handful of them in oils. The title ‘About a Girl’ is taken from a Nirvana song and the painting is framed in a lovely little black custom moulding.” – Ana Bagayan

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

Ana Bagayan is a formally trained illustrator and fine artist from Los Angeles, CA. Born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1983, she immigrated to the USA at the age of six with her family and earned a BFA in Illustration from Art Center College of Design. Ana’s artwork is inspired by the ethereal – E.T.s, aliens, spirits, ghosts, intergalactic space creatures, anything that hints at the idea that we are just a small part of the unimaginably vast Universe.

Ana began her art career illustrating for ad agencies, brands, and publications such as Spin, Rolling Stone, Publicis Mojo, Diesel, Honda, Mighty Fine, Sydney Symphony, Young Guns, Crispin Porter & Bogusky, Saatchi & Saatchi, Weiden & Kennedy London, GQ, Men’s Health, SONY BMG, among others.

Her original paintings have since been exhibited worldwide for over a decade, from Billy Shire‘s La Luz de Jesus gallery in Los Angeles to Takashi Murakami‘s Hidari Zingaro gallery in Tokyo.

She has received numerous awards from American Illustration and Communication Arts awards, as well as Gold Ozzie Award, SILA, and Eckersleys Award.

Ana currently lives in sunny Southern California with her husband and two dogs. When she’s not painting, she is making webcomics and training in krav maga!
