About the Artwork:
“This sparrow is surrounded by for-get-me-nots. I saw lots of these small flowers bloom across the forest floor, near the path I run by. Small pink, blues, and lavender colored blooms. Sometimes I would spot a sparrow or squirrel tumbling among them. So I was inspired to draw this illustration. After finishing this piece, I’m surprised by how it reminds me of elaborate tiles on Iranian palaces.” – Niky Motekallem
About the Artist:
Niky Motekallem is an Iranian-American illustrator who depicts flora and fauna in various states of decay. She uses intricate lines and bright colors inspired by their Persian roots to depict rot and rebirth. When she isn’t working in the studio, Niky is figure skating, brewing a decadent cup of tea, meandering in antique shops for inspiration, on hikes with plant identification guides, or crying over an anime episode.
