About the Artwork:

“This piece is inspired by Piglet in Winnie the Pooh. As a child, I grew up watching Pooh Bear and his friends traverse through The Hundred Acre Wood, and I often identified with Piglet. I was a shy and very sheltered child. Everything scared me, but I’d still try my best to overcome the challenges and situations I faced that caused me to shake down to my toes, just like Piglet. The skull is, indeed, a piglet. The Venus Fly Trap is a symbol of persistence. These plants wait patiently for their food. If nothing lands, they gently close their traps and try again in a few hours. They are also said to be symbols of intuition and empowerment. The mushrooms personally symbolize persistence for me as well, as they grow from environments of death and decay, renewing the earth and maintaining the ecosystem. The little Piglet in me still visits from time to time, and through persistence and determination, I continue to face those challenges to grow and overcome them.” – Tania Pomales

About the Artist:

(Artist Bio)

NJ based Puerto Rican artist Tania Pomales specializes in dark and surreal works created primarily in oils. As a nod to her colorful and bold heritage, Pomales incorporates bright color palettes into her art in juxtaposition with darker motifs, such as skulls and human anatomical references, to explore themes of life and death and the cyclical nature of the human experience. The importance of mental health and deep self reflection are also fundamental themes in her body of work.
