About the Artwork:
A Requiem refers to a mass or musical composition associated with death or dying. The piece focuses not only on the macabre and mourning aspect, but celebrations of new life indicated by the inclusion of plantlife. Certain floral symbolism links carnations with love and respect for the deceased as well as general love and devotion. Similarly, lilies are a common choice for funerals though they also indicate purity, innocence and rebirth.
